I think it would be best to check with the administration at your child's school. Most schools now have a "cell phone policy" in place. Our school allows students to bring their phones to school, but they must be turned off while the student is in school. Parents are also instructed not to call or text their student during school hours. If the parent needs to reach the student they can always contact the office. If students have their phones out during the school day they will be taken away by a teacher or administrator. I think this is an appropriate policy, however I also work in the school and I can tell you that the students still are using their phones during the day. As a parent, we have told our kids that we will be checking on their cell phone usage and if we see any activity during the school day, then the phone will be taken away.
