Schoolfamily.com - Helping parents help their kids succeed at school

My thrird grader started dance this year. Latelly shes been giving me a really hard time and says she wants to quit. I'm torn- I hate to let her quit things but at the same time we pay a lot of money for the class so I hate to have her go if she doesn't enjoy it. What should I do?

Hi Lexy- This article has some great advice from parent educator, Nancy Samalin on this topic: Help Children Finish Activities They Start
I'm curious to hear from other parents on how they think that best way to handle this situation.

Is she able to articulate why she wants to quit? If you can figure out what's really bothering her, you can address that. Maybe she thinks the teacher is mean, or the other kids don't like her, or she's frustrated by how challenging the lessons are. I'd try seeing if you can uncover what she's thinking. Too bad we can't read our kids' minds!
