Memorization is one of many skills that is good for kids to master. While it's excellent to have information about how your child's learning style, it's important that your child try different methods of learning to stretch herself and prepare for the real world. Problem solving and critical thinking are also key to a student's success. Your parent teacher conference is a great time to fill the teachers in on your child's strengths and weaknesses.

Memorizing is necessary for some tasks..however, kids and, I believe, all of us, learn better when we can make sense of what we are learning and to integrate what we are learning with the meaning it has for us personally... Hope this helps!
