My 6 year old daughter wakes us up every night and tells us she can't fall back to sleep unless we rub her back. What can we help her fall asleep on her own and not wake us up unless it is an emergency??

I would suggest teaching some guided imagery techniques. Go to your library to see if they have any books or CDs on this topics. There are some wonderful CDs for children. This way you could encourage her to play the cd or load it on an iPod ... so she can get back to sleep without waking mom!
