Hanukkah starts in less than two weeks. My husband is thinking about getting a wii for the family. I worry it's just gaming and not good for their brains! Any ideas on good educational presents for kids? I am in a rush!

So what do you all think about electronic toys vs. toys that, as they say, are just powered by the kids' imagination? I keep being drawn to electronic toys because they're cool, and have to remember that kids can have a lot of fun with toys that don't require batteries.
Love the talking globe idea, Cole! Personally, I think the best educational gift ideas are books that expose your kids to something new: like different cultures or art. Our blogger, Connie McCarthy recently posted some great gift suggestions for kids ages 4-8 here: http://www.schoolfamily.com/blog/2009/11/30/kids-holiday-gifts-give-the-gift-of-learning ... There are some other good suggestions for educational gifts here:

Erin- We love our wii (don't love the xbox tho)-- The big brain academy is great for minds and the olympics game is a hoot! We are getting our kids a talking globe for an "educational gift"!
