Melinda- That's great news about the job! It's exciting and scary, all at once, to move to a new place. Would suggest that you start by make a list of what you are looking for in a school. Are you working with a realtor? Ask his/her advise on the best schools in the area and also for materials and websites. By visiting the websites you can get all the stats, so you can narrow down what schools to visit. Also off the website you can get contact names of people to talk to. Besides the academics and activities, school community is very important. Once you have it narrowed down, find a name of a PTO or PTA person to ask them about the environment of the school (are parents actively involved in their kids education?) Be sure to visit our Find A School section (http://www.schoolfamily.com/find-a-school) to see how people rate the schools you are considering. Also, here are some great articles to help you and your kids with the move. http://www.schoolfamily.com/school-family-articles/category/705-moving-to-a-new-school

My husband and just landed a job (woo hoo) but we are moving to another part of the country - no relatives -no friends - know nothing about the towns or school systems. Where do I start?
