Tell him you think science is fun, and set out to prove it. Try any of the following, according to your child’s interest:

  • Rent a movie about space flight, such as Apollo 13.

  • Visit a nearby planetarium, museum, or zoo.

  • Let your child plan your family’s menu for the week. Ask him to consult a book about nutrition to help him come up with balanced meals.

  • Ask your child to find five things your family can do to take care of the environment. Put him in charge of the effort.

  • Have your child start a garden in containers. When the weather warms up, move it outdoors.

  • Scan the television listings for programs about medicine, nature, or technology.
