If your family is planning a move this summer, here are some things you can do to ease the transition:
• If possible, arrange for your teen to spend at least one day in the new school during this school year. Seeing the new building and meeting even a few people will make next fall’s transition a little easier.
• As soon as you arrive, set up an appointment with a counselor at the new school. Ask if the counselor would share names of some students who may be enrolled in your teen’s classes.
• Look for a way to get involved with the school yourself. Call the president of the parent-teacher association and ask what you can do to help.
• Give your teen a chance to stay in touch with friends from his current school. Perhaps you can even arrange a visit some weekend next fall.
