• She doesn’t want to go to her locker after school because another student is bothering her.

• Peers are teasing him about taking his books home to study.

• Her books are heavy and she has a long walk home.

• He has lost his locker combination or a book and he doesn’t want anyone to find out.

When you have time to talk calmly, ask your teen why he’s not bringing assignments home. Ask specific questions about what happens at the end of the day.

Treat this as a chance to solve problems and not a time to be critical. It’s not until you identify the problem that you can help your teen take steps to solve it.
