Children must follow directions to keep order in the classroom. That way, they and their fellow students will be in the right kind of environment to learn.

Following directions isn't always easy to learn. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. Try making a game out of it. One idea is to use masking tape to make a big circle on the floor. Give your child directions about the circle. Ask him to jump into the circle. Then ask him to skip out.

Add a counting game by saying things like “Walk around the circle one time.” Then, “Gallop around the circle two times.” You’ll be able to come up with many other variations, too. Play the game again using a square, triangle, or other shape.
