Showing children how often we use math helps them become comfortable with numbers. Here are activities you can do in different parts of your home.
Kitchen. Set the table, counting out various items: cups, spoons, plates. Then fold napkins in halves, thirds, or quarters.
Living room. Play bingo, cards, or dominoes with your child. See how many shapes you can find: a square picture, a round table.
Bathroom. Let your child play with containers of different sizes during a bath, such as cups, pints, and gallons. Try weighing different objects on the bathroom scale.
Bedroom. Sort clothes together. Separate by color or type. Talk about the different sizes of clothes and shoes your child wears.
