Here are some ways to show your child you care:
- Showcase your child. Hang his drawings on the refrigerator. Help him find a shelf to display his rock collection. Speak highly of him to other adults. “Grandma, did you know Seth was in a play at his preschool?”
- Encourage your child’s interests. For example, if he loves to build, have a supply of blocks on hand. Hint: yard sales and garage sales are great places to find gently used toys for very little money!
- Make every effort to attend special events, such as “Mommy and me” days at preschool. It may help to ask your child’s teacher for a schedule a few months in advance.
- Spend one-on-one time each day with your child. Even if it is only for 10 minutes, let your child choose what the two of you will do. You could read, cuddle, talk or play with some of his toys.
