Many are also bossy. They want everything their own way.

But as your child grows and plays with others, she will also need to learn to be considerate.

Help her make and keep friends by:

• Encouraging her to take turns. You may have to say, “Katie, Megan has had fun playing dolls with you. But now I think she wants you to play dress-up with her.”

• Setting limits. It’s common for two preschoolers to fight over the same toy. Try a kitchen timer to help them learn to share. Set it for three minutes while the first one plays. When the timer goes off, the other child gets three minutes.

• Teaching manners. Your child can serve her guests a snack, and walk them to the door when it’s time to say goodbye. This teaches her that others like to receive attention, too.
