Choose a sunny day and explore your yard or neighborhood with your child. Let her pick a tree or plant to claim as a “special friend” for the next few months. Explain to her that you will come back often and visit this “friend” to see how it has changed.
Talk with her about the way it looks now. Does it have any leaves yet? What about flowers? Can you see any buds? Explain that these things mean it is ready to grow again.
Encourage your child to draw a picture of her special tree or plant. Keep the picture. Have her draw one each time you visit her “special friend.”
