Providing everyday experiences like these will teach important math concepts:

  • Play games together—dice games, board games like Monopoly, and card games.

  • Plan aloud with your child before doing errands. Ask things like “What should we do first, second, and last?”

  • Talk about time. “Dinner will be ready in 10 minutes.”

  • Have a clock with hands (not digital). Close your eyes and predict when 10, 30, or 60 seconds pass.

  • At the grocery store, involve your child in counting change.

  • Give your child a personal calendar, or make one. Together, mark down events and cross off days.
