Parents need to take time to appreciate the things children do—and not just point out what they haven’t done. Parents should also teach children to appreciate themselves.
An “I Am Proud” poster can help you do both.
Hang a large sheet of paper on a wall. Write your child’s name on it and paste or draw a picture of her right in the middle of the page.
Whenever your child acts in a way that is helpful to others or does something she is proud of—write down a couple of words about it. You or your child can write about what you appreciate, and so can friends, relatives and even your child’s teacher.
