Choosing Educational Software for Children

Computers can help children learn. But some software seems only to teach kids how to kill alien invaders.

What should you keep in mind as you are choosing software for your children? These suggestions will help you choose the most productive and educational programs:

  • It should have levels of difficulty. It should change as your child’s skills improve.

  • It should be fun. Children will be more likely to use computer software if they have fun while they’re learning.

  • It should help children be proud of what they achieve.

  • It should encourage children to think and discover things for themselves.

  • It should be free from bias, stereotypes, and violence.
