Acronyms are words using the first letters in a phrase. An example is “WAC” for Women's Army Corps. Another is “PTO” for Parent Teacher Organization. If your child needs to learn the colors in the spectrum, try the acronym “Roy G. Biv.” The colors are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.
Acrostics are special sentences. The first letter of every word is the first letter in the item to be learned. Here’s a sample to learn the planets in the solar system: “My Very Educated Mother Just Showed Us New Planets.” The planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto.
