That’s because the technicians always came with food. The dogs were licking their chops before they saw the food, because they associated the technicians with food.
What does this have to do with homework? Pavlov found that when two stimuli are paired together over time, the second one (the technician) begins to cause the same response as the first (the food).
The same kind of thing happens to children who sit in the same position and place to study each day. When they assume their position, their automatic responses will be conditioned to concentrate. This makes it easier to automatically concentrate, and makes good use of study time. No time is wasted “getting in the mood” or the mindset for schoolwork.
