Smart is something you can get." That's

a message parents need to give their children every day.

Too many parents believe that success in school is mostly due to intelligence. In fact, the opposite is true. Children who are willing to work hard at a subject often learn more and better than bright students who don't apply themselves.

That message carries over to the rest of life, as well. Even the most gifted athlete can't be a winner if he doesn't practice every day. Even the greatest singer needs to study throughout her career.

The highest achievers are often those who have worked the hardest and done the most with the gifts they have.

Success leads to success. Those who work hard often end up outperforming everyone else. Smart really is something you can get.
