"The problem is how to remain an artist when he grows up."

Many times, children can express themselves better through a dance or a painting than they can in words. Success in the arts can often lead to success in school. Here are some ways to encourage your children:

ù Provide a variety of materials for your children's art projects. Give your child a place to work.

ù Look for opportunities to take your child to plays, concerts, or dance performances.

ù Visit an art museum with your child.

ù If your child plays in a band or sings in the school chorus, be sure to attend any public performances. Artists need audiences.

ù Watch TV shows together that focus on the arts. Watch for broadcasts of live performances.

ù Help your child understand the need for practice, patience, and persistence. Developing skill in any artistic field takes a long time.
