Help your child develop a “Memory Bank.” Talk about your favorite memories—things that have happened to you that are sad, funny, challenging, special.

Give your child index cards and ask him to jot down one of his favorite memories on each card. Then put the cards in a box titled “Memory Bank.”

Do this often and your child will have a wealth of ideas to draw on for future writing topics.

Does your child aspire to be a great writer? Tell him he can draw on the Memory Bank throughout his writing career. The best writers write from their experiences.
