She helped her child see her progress throughout the year. She used an extra calendar to create a scrapbook of her child’s first year in school.

At the beginning of the school year, Marjorie bought an extra calendar. She used it to record her child’s appointments—ballet class and school functions. She also used it to keep track of her daughter’s progress in school.

When a teacher sent home a sticker for a good job in school, it went on the calendar.

“We saved some special projects and papers and clipped them” on the calendar in the month they were assigned, Marjorie says. “It’s interesting to see the developmental growth from the first of the year to the end.”

As mother and child worked with the calendar, they talked a lot. “We’ll have many memories to share for years to come as we go back through them,” she says.
