To make Hot Chocolate in a Jar, have your child:

  1. Collect small baby-food-size jars.

  2. Fill each jar with enough hot cocoa mix to make a one-cup serving.

  3. Fill the jars with small marshmallows. Estimate how many will fit. Count them. How close was your child’s estimate?

  4. Cut fabric scraps into circles that will cover the lids and drape one inch around.

  5. Measure an 18-inch length of ribbon or yarn.

  6. Center a fabric circle on each lid. Tie the ribbon around the edge.

  7. Glue a chocolate kiss on top of each lid.

  8. Glue a candy cane to the side.

  9. Write a small note with directions like, “Here’s a gift to warm you up on a cold day. Just pour into a mug. Fill with hot water, and drop in the kiss. Stir with the candy cane, and enjoy!”
