For everyone’s safety and security, parents need to help children learn how to follow the rules. Here are some suggestions:

  1. Discuss the school bus rules with your child. Let your child know that you support these rules.
  2. Drive the bus route with your child. Look for landmarks. At the beginning of the school year, children sometimes get off the bus at the wrong stop. Help your child recognize landmarks that will tell him your stop is coming up.
  3. Help your child memorize the color, letter or number of the bus.
  4. Don’t make it easy for your child to miss the bus. If it’s safe to let him walk, do so—even if he’s late to school.
