Here are some ways to help your child see that writing is part of everyday life.
Ask your child to help you by writing your shopping list. Or, ask your child to check a list and add some favorite items.
Do you have a day of errands? Ask your child to help you create a “to do” list.
Encourage your child to record his own activities on the family calendar. Small children can draw pictures of activities.
Teach your children to take telephone messages. Make sure there's paper and a pencil by every telephone.
Set up a family message center. (The refrigerator works just fine.) Have this be a place where everyone checks in every day to read and leave notes.
