Every family has its own values. However, there are a few values from which every person can benefit. With these, your teen has a better chance of growing up with self-respect, and of winning respect from others.
Teach your teen these values:
- Forgiveness. Throughout your teenager’s life, there will be times when people will treat her unkindly. She can stay angry forever, or she can forgive. Forgiving is not only better for relationships, it is better for health. Holding onto anger can lead to stress and a consistently bad mood.
- Generosity. A giving person takes time to help others. She does it not because she has to, but because she knows that she can make someone’s life a bit better. Each time she gives to another, she makes her own life better, too.
- Integrity. A person with integrity tells the truth. You can trust her. She will do what she says she will do.
- Respect. A person who acts with respect treats others as she wants to be treated. She is kind, thoughtful and polite.
