Help Your Teen Handle Stress

Between trying to maintain grades, activities, social life and worrying about further education, stress is part of life for high school students.

It’s good practice. Few adults live without stress. Teen years are a good time to learn to handle it.

Teen expert Mike Riera tells high school students that they can handle stress as long as they have balance in their lives. Schoolwork comes first. But teens need outlets for fun, too. That includes a little time to just goof off.

Riera suggests teens ask themselves three questions.

1. “Are your expectations of yourself and others realistic?”

2. “Are you doing the things that are important to you?”

3. “Do you learn from your mistakes?”

If the answer to any of the above is “no,” Riera suggests using that as a starting point. Working on changing the no to a yes is a good way to bring life into balance.
