Because she’s
bored, she may stop trying at all.
It’s likely that a bored teen needs new challenges. There are a variety of places to find them:
• Look at school first. Almost every high school offers enrichment programs for gifted teens. If she’s not enrolled, encourage her to try one.
• Get an early start on college. If your teen needs or wants more than her school offers, consider enrolling her in a college course or two. Let her choose one that matches her interests.
• Stimulate your teen’s mind at home. Encourage her to keep a steady supply of library books on topics that she enjoys.
Suggest she delve into the writings of a favorite author, reading the author’s little known works and comparing them with better-known ones.
Play chess with her. Find some space for her to paint, play music or build.
