To get your teen reading:
Connect books and food. Try taking your teen to a bookstore or café. Over coffee and a dessert, your teen can choose books or magazines to buy. Or create your own café at home. Bake a favorite dessert, sit down with your teen and spend some time reading.
Suggest books you enjoy. Most teens are ready to read adult authors. But they want to know what you like. If you have some favorite authors, suggest their books to your teen.
Help your teen find friends who like to read. Encourage them to discuss books they enjoy. You can’t choose your teen’s friends, but you can suggest places where readers are likely to meet. For instance, your teen could join the school newspaper staff. Or if your teen is on a team, give her team a subscription to a magazine that covers that sport.
Keep a supply of books and magazines available in your home for your teen.
