But don’t plan to just drive up, get out and have a look around. You should begin planning now for a spring trip.
• Do some homework. Before visiting a college, your teen should at least review its brochures and catalogs. It’s also a good idea to look up the school on the Internet. Your teen can use a computer in the school guidance office or public library if you don’t have one at home.
• Make reservations. Try to book a tour and an interview with an admissions officer. You need to call several months in advance for this. If it’s possible, consider staying overnight. Sometimes colleges will arrange for overnight visits in student dorms.
• Plan to act like a student. Attend at least one class and one campus event of your choice.
