Ask her to figure how often her heart beats:
In a minute. Count beats for 15 seconds. Multiply by four.
In an hour. If her heart beats 68 times a minute, round it to 70 for easier estimation. Then multiply 70 x 60 minutes.
In a day. Estimated beats per hour x 24 hours.
In a week. Estimated beats per day x 7 days.
In a year. Estimated beats per week x 52 weeks.
Have your child also figure out how many days it takes for one million heartbeats. Divide 1,000,000 by the estimated number of heartbeats per day.
For an extra challenge, have your child figure the estimated number of years it will take for her heart to beat one billion times.
