We can see it, hear it or touch it to get an idea about what it is. But if we want the best information, we must also use another tool—our thinking skill.
Thinking skills allow us to do research. They help us make decisions. And we certainly need them to solve problems. It’s easy to see that sharp thinking skills will improve your child’s chances of success in school and in life.
Here are some ways to stimulate your child to deeper, more analytical thinking:
• When your child gives an opinion, don’t just nod. Ask why she feels that way.
• Occasionally give your child the chance to change your mind. Challenge her to come up with information you might not have considered at first.
• When watching TV or movies, talk about whether the plot made sense. Why or why not? What could have improved the show?
