The start of a new school year is a great time to renew your commitment to supporting higher student achievement. Use this checklist throughout the year to ensure you’re doing all you can:
___1. My child has a regular place to do homework, free from distractions and equipped with study tools.
___2. I know what kind of homework is expected from teachers and make sure my child completes it.
___3. We make reading a part of our family’s daily routine. We spend at least 20 minutes reading and talking about what we read.
___4. We keep books, magazines, and newspapers in the house.
___5. My child’s TV viewing is limited to no more than two hours a day.
___6. I expect my child to take the most rigorous academic courses possible—such as advanced math and foreign language.
___7. I encourage my child to be involved in extracurricular and volunteer activities.
___8. I support the school’s efforts to develop and enforce rules for student discipline. I don’t expect exceptions for my child.
___9. I find out how I can support the school. I make every effort to volunteer to help where needed at school or at home.
