Many adults have. For some reason, percentages are intimidating. These activities can make your child more comfortable with them:
Save your junk mail until you’ve collected a few credit card offers. Have your child figure out the interest on a $100 purchase for each card. Which is the best deal?
Give your child a store receipt. Suggest that he figure out what the total would have been if your state’s tax rate were different.
Request brochures from local banks. Help your child figure out where it makes sense to open a college fund. Consider a savings account, CD or other investment.
At a restaurant, tell your child that he can spend a certain amount, such as $10.00. Have him figure out what he can afford, including tax and tip.
