Caring for small children is a big responsibility. But it’s one most middlers are ready for.
However, they are not ready to sit without your support. If your child wants to babysit, encourage her to take courses offered by the American Red Cross or perhaps your local YMCA.
Here, she will learn safety measures and what to do in an emergency. She will also learn baby basics such as diapering. She may even get good ideas for entertaining small children.
Do not let your child sit for someone you don’t know. The only exception might be if someone you trust gives a reference. Say your sister’s neighbor asks your child to sit. If your sister can vouch for her neighbor, it’s probably okay.
Stay in touch while your child is sitting. She will feel more comfortable on the job if she knows she can call you if she needs to.
