LiviaMcCoy writes: Your son may not technically qualify for special education, but it sounds like he really does need some help. I would ask his teacher or counselor again why he does not qualify for services. It appears to me that he really needs an intervention plan to get him back on track. Ask the counselor this question, "What are you doing as an intervention for him? How do you plan to measure his progress?" If that does not get their attention, request that he be formally evaluated. I would advise that you NOT peacefully accept that "he does not qualify as a special student." He needs you to be his advocate. The counselor should be able to explain exactly why he does not qualify. ALL children qualify for high quality education aimed at raising their skills.

And, Stay on top of it. Call the board of education. or The mayor us goverment he has a email account there. dont let time go bye. It happened to me my son did not receive help for 3 years. I finally smarten up. Your child works hard im sure! There our ways he can get help my son is in all regular classes except he gets help when it comes to time of test he get more time in reading. I still keep an eye on his work and, I do not hide any potential that my son has know he can read faster than i can. children with learning problems can be smarter than what people think.Iep is the program for add and adhd. the have a hand book with the rules and laws. They school is required to do the testing with a psychologist. Dont be threatened this will help your child. they run test to see were your child weekness our. The teachers wanted to hold my son back. The pshcologist said, that is the worst thing you can do when a child has this condition. Good luck
