My Child Won't Do Homework. Help.

Feel like I've been reading Barbara Meltz's advice in the Boston Globe forever. Always balanced and rational. Here, she tackles a common lament: what to do when your child (in this case a 13-year-old) just won't take care of his homework responsibilities.
Ugh -- Can't use word "school". Give me a break.

My child just lies about what homework is assigned, usually when it's something he doesn't want to do, assignments that are drawn out over a week or 2. Day to day math and that type he'll do no problem.
The kids have agendas but the teacher thinks they should be responsible for filling them out.
I check it every night and when it's blank all I can do is assume that there is none.
The teacher told me when I get home at 5:30pm the janitor is still at the school so I can come in and check the board then.

Like i said before, if neither of those work, simply send them to a private school without their phones.

Well, i would suggest you take away the phone, watch him/her do their homework, and when they finish let them fool around with the phone for 5-20 minutes. But if your child doesnt focus on his homework then take away his/her phone, ground him/her.
