Is My Child Reading at Grade-Level? - Good Question to Ask in the New Year

Homeschool him.. Why push him to do something that he's apparently not ready to do?? Public school assumes that all students are ready to learn at the same pace. This is untrue.. Learning styles and maturity levels vary from child to child. Homeschooling allows you to move ahead when your child is ready or keep working on something until he gets it. I've been down the route you are on and it's very difficult. I finally decided that homeschool was the answer and 4 years later my kids are excelling. One was considered dyslexic by the school and was placed in a special class. She is now reading above her grade level with little pushing from me. Allowing her to move at her own pace was the key. She was not dyslexic and after testing with the eye doctor we found that she had a tracking problem that had some of the same symptoms as dyslexia. It was easily corrected simply by reading. If homeschooling isn't an option ,see if there is a tutoring program at your child's school he can be enrolled in.

And the things you hear about unsocialized homeschoolers is a myth. My children are very well socialized and we always have compliments on how well behaved and respectful they are. They help elderly neighbors and also play well with younger and older children as well as those their own age. So think about it, if it's an option. There are so many resources out there to help you get going.

My 2nd graders is not reading any where near his level. When it comes to reading we have problems every night till the point my son is crying we have to stop. He does not seem to be able to remember his site words and has problems with the same word even if just in the next sentence. What can we do to help reslove this and get him where he needs to be?
