A New Year's Wish for Parents of School-Age Kids

Parenting school-age kids is anything but peaceful. Tiring, joyful, confusing, sometimes rewarding - maybe.  But peaceful, hardly ever. And yet, a quote I came across this holiday season made me rethink that belief.

"Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart."

When you think of it that way, you realize that moments of peace are attainable -- like when you are helping your child with math homework and they finally get the concept, or when you are driving the car pool to soccer and all the kids are singing on the top of their lungs, or how about when you are snuggling with your child reading a book ...the list goes on.

If I could, I'd change the quote to say "calm and happy in your heart". When you think of peace that way, no doubt we can use peace and kids in the same sentence.

So my wish for you this New Year's eve is for many moments peace - today and through out the new year.

Happy New Year!
