My child is always doing homework from 4 until 9 or 10 pm. She hates it and I sometimes hear her crying. All or most of her homework is due the next day or the day after that, and she doesn't even have time to study.

My child is now in the 7th grade and I can count on one hand the amount of times she has had homework in these past 8 years of school. She has pretty much NEVER had homework. Is this normal?? I am worried that when she gets into high school she will be in for a rude awakening. I am worried that she will not have the skills in place to manage her time apporiately to get it done in a timely manner every night let alone be able to balance homework and a sports schedule. How can I instill the importance of time mangement and the importance of allowing enough time in her schedule, once she gets to high school, for homework now when she has no concept of what homework is?

Beyond 2 hours, homework feels like a punishment and is no longer a positive learning experience.
