Breakfast Brunch Casserole

Since this recipe must be refrigerated for one hour (or overnight) after being assembled, it's a terrific make-ahead dish. Simply pop it in the oven to bake, and it'll be ready when your guests arrive.

  • 6-8 slices buttered bread, cubed
  • 6 eggs, beaten
  • 2 1/4 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Swiss or cheddar)
  • 1-2 pounds pork sausage, browned and drained
  • optional, but can be added: chopped onion, green pepper, mushrooms
  • Directions

    1. Preheat over to 325 degrees.

    2. Combine eggs, milk, and seasonings. Fold in bread, cheese, and sausage.
    3. Pour into buttered casserole dish and refrigerate several hours or overnight.
    4. Bake for 1 hour.
