Homemade Dog Biscuits

Use a dog-bone-shaped cookie cutter to make these yummy canine treats. If giving the dog biscuits to a friend's pooch, use the same dog-bone-shaped cookie cutter and trace a special "dog tag" with the dog's name, using colored paper. Dogs love these nutritious treats!.

  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1 cup of wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup of powdered milk
  • 1/2 cup of wheat germ
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of brown sugar
  • 6 tablespoons of margarine, lard or chilled bacon fat
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 325 F.
    2. In a medium-sized bowl mix the flours, milk, and salt
    3. Add pieces of margarine, lard or bacon fat, and cut with knives or pastry blender until mixture becomes the size of small peas.
    4. Add sugar and egg, and gradually pour in water to make the dough stiff.
      Turn the dough out onto a floured board or clean counter, and knead until it is smooth.
    5. Use a rolling pin(or wine bottle) to roll the dough 1/2 inch thick. Cut the dough into dog bone-shaped treats using the bone-shaped cookie cutter.
    6. Place the "bones" on a baking sheet and bake in oven for 30 minutes.
    7. Remove the treats from the oven and let them cool. Then give to your dog and watch them disappear!
