My granddaughter pretends she is a butterfly etc while the other kids are doing their homework....she makes good grades but the teacher is saying she is too immature for 2nd and needs to be held back.......what is your opinion of this.

First I will say that a child having an imagination at any age is wonderful. Without knowing your granddaughter it's tough to comment on holding her back. Retention can be beneficial in some situations when a child is developmentally (not academically) immature. It is a very tough decision for you to make, so as a parent I would want detailed reasons, examples and documentation of why the teacher is making this recommendation.
