The best way to help teens improve their writing is by encouraging them to write regularly. Here’s how to give your teen the opportunity and inspiration to write.

Encourage your teen to keep a journal. The teenage years are a perfect time to start keeping a journal. Buy your teen a book with blank pages and ask her to record her thoughts and dreams.

Encourage your teen to give gifts of writing. If your teen is stuck for what to give a relative, encourage her to write a poem or a letter.

Help your teen get published. All writers dream of seeing their writing in print. School newspapers and literary magazines may give your teen the spark she needs to keep writing. Her English teacher can give her a list of publications that accept student work.
