The pre-SAT exam, known as PSAT, is taken by high school sophomores and juniors, and sometimes as early as 8th or 9th grade, to get an idea of how they’ll perform on the real thing. It also gives students a practice run on the SAT college admissions exam. Students who don’t do as well as they hoped can improve through practice, online prep courses, classroom prep courses, and tutoring.
