Later, they’ll be motivated to try harder and do better in school.
A child needs to feel loved to develop a positive self-image. Naturally, you love your child. But children need constant reassurance to increase feelings of self-worth. Here’s what to do:
- Be affectionate with your child. Tell her often that you love her. Give her lots of hugs and kisses. Spend time with her.
- Pay attention to your child. Answer her questions honestly and quickly. Interrupt what you’re doing when she wants to talk. This helps her feel valued.
- Help your child express her feelings. Accept her feelings, even if they’re negative. Ask questions and listen. Talking it out may help her feel better.
- Encourage your child to try new tasks on her own, such as making her bed. Praise her efforts so she’ll feel proud. Assure her that mistakes are okay.
