In fact, kids can’t learn

algebra if they don’t know how to recognize patterns. Here are some activities that will motivate your child to recognize patterns.

• Check the newspaper each day to find out which phase of the moon is present. Help your child learn how long each phase lasts and how long it takes from full moon to full moon.

• Use silverware, dishes or other household items to create patterns. How many different patterns can you create using only knives, forks and spoons?

• Take a family walk. Collect leaves, rocks, acorns or pine cones. Then see how many patterns you can make with items from nature.
