Sometimes, all it takes is a change in attitude.

At the start of each month, think about all the things you do for your child. Choose one thing that you could turn over to her.

For instance, you may pack your child’s lunch each day. What would you have to do before your child could take over that task? What does she need to learn? Then during the next month, help her learn those skills. If you are teaching her to pack her lunch by herself, you may need to make a list of good lunch choices. What are her favorite foods? Make sure you have those on hand.

Have her pack her lunch each night. Then when she gets up in the morning, lunch is ready to go.

Each month, choose a new skill for your child to master. Give her a chance to practice. Then turn the task over to her.
