Sometimes children have a hard time remembering what they’re supposed to do. To keep kids focused, take two small file boxes containing index cards. Label one box “In” and the other “Out.” Each card lists a chore or homework assignment and the date that the task must be completed. No need to nag anymore. When it’s time to do a particular task, your kids check out the appropriate card from the box. They keep the card until the deed is done. Then they turn it in to an adult (mom, dad, caretaker) who checks their work with them. With cards in hand, the children always know what needs doing—and you know what’s been done and how long it took.
